This is our team standing in front of another project completed successfully by TGOOD South Africa! We’re proud to have completed this substation upgrade project on time, as proposed by our client Andre’s Electrical. The project was successfully commissioned and energised on-site and went live in May 2025!
The commercial substation our equipment went to is in the Durban area of the Ethekwini Municipality. This was the first installation of a TAP17 switchgear with top cable entry in South Africa. For this prototype we used KYN panels for our region, for a total project value of $294,700 USD.
Alongside the back and forth clarification meetings with our factory supplier, it took 9 working weeks from drawings approval to ex works in China to complete the manufacturing of 14 panels. Although the panels were ready on 12 November 2024, we were only able to ship them on 26 November due to delays at the port in China.
The shipment arrived at Durban Port on 18 December 2024, and the container was only released in the first week of January 2025 due to further port-related delays. Our offices had already closed for the December holidays as of 16 December 2024, but we managed to track and trace the shipment. We were not penalised, as the client was closely monitoring the shipment’s progress and acknowledged that delivery was achieved as planned, despite the shipping and port delays.
The timing of installation of the switchgear was very important, as it was going to a commercial facility that only shuts down once or twice a year.

Why TGOOD had the best substation solution
Some key features of our offer in this instance included:
- Our offer was competitively priced and provided some additional value
- Our commercial terms were favourable
- Our proposal was very good and we were responsive to the request for proposal (RFP)
- We had a strong relationship and effective communication
- We had good knowledge of air insulated switchgear and the client was able to leverage this to achieve an excellent outcome for their energy needs
Our TGOOD brand was known and had a positive influence with the parties.
The client has since ordered an additional 4-panel board from TGOOD Africa and plans to add another 4-panel board to complete the next substation. This was a successful power distribution project for TGOOD Africa, and we look forward to many more of its kind.
Great teamwork and collaboration all around!
