Brendale BESS: 33 kV RMU substation kiosks

TGOOD Australia supplied 33 kV ring main unit (RMU) substation kiosks for the Brendale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Brisbane’s outer northern suburbs, delivered for contractor Consolidated Power Projects (CPP). Supply was completed in 2025.

About the project

The Brendale BESS is a 205 MW / 410 MWh grid-scale battery operated by Akaysha Energy, connected directly to the South Pine substation to support the stability and reliability of South East Queensland’s electricity network. The system provides fast-acting energy and ancillary services to the National Electricity Market (NEM), including frequency control ancillary services (FCAS) and energy arbitrage.

Equipment supplied

TGOOD supplied 64 x 33 kV secondary GIS units, each housed in purpose-built weatherproof substation kiosks. The kiosks provide self-contained, site-ready enclosures for the medium voltage switchgear, designed for the demanding operational requirements of a large-scale BESS installation.

Working with CPP

Consolidated Power Projects engaged TGOOD as switchgear and kiosk supplier for the project. CPP is an Australian electrical infrastructure contractor with extensive experience in utility-scale energy projects.

TGOOD’s ability to supply a consistent specification across a large number of units—on programme and to the quality standards required for grid-connected infrastructure—made it a well-suited partner for a project of this scale.
